Turkish Baklava
Deliciously flaky phyllo pastry layered with chopped nuts and soaked in a sweet syrup, this Turkish baklava is the perfect dessert for any occasion

Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Butter the bottom and the sides of a baking pan with melted butter.

Place layers of phyllo pastry in the pan, cutting in half to fit in the pan.

Place one phyllo sheet in the pan and brush it with melted butter. Place the second phyllo over it and butter it too. Repeat this until desired sheets have been placed.

Spread 60g nuts over the last sheet evenly.

Place one phyllo sheet in the pan and brush it with melted butter. Place the second phyllo over it and butter it as well. Repeat the process.

Using a sharp knife, cut the raw baklava into serving size, vertical strips and then cut diagonally. Make sure you butter the top.

Bake it at 200°C for 20 minutes or until the tops are golden.

Remove it from the oven, pour cooled syrup over hot baklava.

Let it stand uncovered for 20 minutes for the syrup to be absorbed. Garnish with crushed coconuts and nuts.
