German Apple Cake
Scrumptiously spiced apple cake with a dollop of jam and crushed nuts.

Preheat the oven to 175C. Slice the apples.

In a small bowl, add the sliced apples, lemon juice, ½ teaspoon of white sugar, cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of melted butter. Mix well and set aside.

In another bowl, grease a cake pan with 1 tsp. melted butter and line the bottom with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, break the eggs one at a time and transfer them into a mixing bowl. Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract to the mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until combined.

Add 1 cup of sugar, beat for another 3 minutes. Add melted butter and yogurt, mix and combine until creamy. Sieve in the flour and mix well until light and fluffy.

Add baking powder and milk to the batter, mix well for 1 minute or until all ingredients are incorporated.

Scrape the batter into the prepared pan, even the top, and arrange the apple slices on the batter.

Place in the preheated oven, bake at 175°C for 40-45 minutes or until slightly brown. Transfer to the upper rack and bake for 4 minutes or until golden and crisp on top.

Allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle jam on the cake and decorate with crushed nuts or any nuts of your choice.
